In this book, follow the young engineer and his team’s trip on board the ship-come-laboratory, the Nomade des Mers (Roaming the seas), which left the port of Concarneau in 2016 for three years of exploration. The aim was to become an exemplary self-sufficient ecosystem, the standard-bearer of sustainable and united innovation. At sea and at each port of call, the team experiments with low tech, an idea that shapes every moment of the expedition, from the construction of the boat to the choice of destinations. Low tech is the true engine of the adventure!
THE AUTHOR
Corentin de Chatelperron, born in 1983, is a French engineer, explorer and president of the Gold of Bengal association. His mission is to research, develop and promote solutions to the challenges of autonomy of water, energy, food and materials that better respect nature, cultures and the resources of different areas. In 2009, while working in a shipyard in Bangladesh, Corentin came up with the idea to replace the fiberglass he was using with jute fibre, a natural local resource. To prove its potential and find partners, Corentin built the small sailing boat Tara Tari, the first boat to use jute as a material, and decided to sail to France on a six-month solitary journey. Three years later, the Gold of Bengal, a boat made 100% of jute, was inaugurated in Bangladesh. In 2016, on board the Nomade des Mers (Roaming the Seas), he set on a three-year, round-the-world trip, searching for low-tech inventors.
