The Orient-Express

Long train rides to the edge of Europe, a luxurious setting and state-of-the-arts technology: all aboard the mythical Orient-Express!

Clive Lamming is a renowned railroad historian. He has published close to 60 works on the topic, including Trains de légende en 35 volumes (Atlas, 1995-1999), Le Larousse des trains et des chemins de fer (Larousse, 2005) and Paris au temps des gares (Parigramme, 2011). A highly successful author, Clive Lamming's 2014 book La France en train sold 10 000 copies. He also regularly collaborates with La Revue générale des chemins de fer, works as a technical advisor on film projects (such as Hugo by Martin Scorsese) and as an expert for the G8 on the project of a Sino-European train line.

This book represents the myriad of data that made the Orient Express one of the most fascinating trains in the world. From the original idea to its laborious realization, up to the train's roaring success and world fame, the Orient Express epic covers more than 150 years of history, in which Man and technology played equal parts. Illustrated by a set of elegant and faithful drawings, the story of this mythical train is told by Clive Lamming, one of the world's foremost railway historians and technical adviser for Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express, the film adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic, coming in November 2017.
