The greatest king of France by the most popular of French historians

Max Gallo, member of the French Academy, was a novelist, essayist and historian who held a doctorate in history and had a long history of teaching. He was the author of numerous biographies (including those of Jesus Christ, Joan of Arc and Victor Hugo) and more general works (La Révolution française and Une histoire de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, among others).
